Rocks That Bleed ~ The film to get me into film

Watch it here!

Although this will be my first review of a film, I know I will end up being a bit biased when it comes to Bertie Gilbert’s 2015 short film, ‘Rocks That Bleed’. This is because in my eyes it is a short film that will forever remain beautiful.
In a recent analysis, Bertie Gilbert was named as one of the ‘Five New Wes Andersons’ by Dazed, only strengthening the fact that this film has got it right. The characters are realistic, genuine and complex, something perfected by the actors, with one being the director himself.
The film begins with two brothers faced with an unthinkable situation. The end of the world is upon them and they come together to reignite the famous ‘brotherly love’ that they once had.
The film itself looks stunning, DoP Ciaren O’ Brien does a fantastic job lighting the scenes in such a way that the type of apocalypse is clear without the need to state it. this is, in fact, one of the best things about this film as it inspires a unique style of film which is often ignored. Overall this film can easily be described as beautiful, both aesthetically and generally. Although, it must be kept in mind that this is a short, low budget film it cannot be ignored that this is something every amateur filmmaker should aspire too and in my mind, this fantastic film should have received much more gratification.
