What Films To Watch In Isolation

Lockdown is boring especially now were way past 2 months of it. Although it’s necessary it doesn’t take away from the fact that your daily life is put on pause. Now if you’re anything like me, films and tv are an escape from stress and worry. So I decided to see if any of my suggestions can help people escape.

Since there’s quite a few streaming platforms I want to do a few for each.

Netflix:

Marriage Story | Netflix Official Site

Marriage Story

With a rating of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, I’m not the only one that can vouch for this wonderful movie. It tells the tale of a stage director and his actor wife as they struggle through a divorce that pushes them to their extremes. The acting is like nothing I have ever seen before and some of the monologues that are produced are just to dream of. If you’re looking for a tense whilst also comedic watch, this is the one.

Adam Sandler responds to 'Uncut Gems' being snubbed by Oscars

Uncut Gems

I haven’t seen this one yet but it’s definitely on my list. Everyone I speak to can’t get enough of it and say it is one of Adam Sandler’s best. What sold it for me was the fact that it isn’t just an Adam Sandler film, it is so different and so incredible that it got 92% on Rotten Tomatoes!

6 Terrifying Films To Stream Instead Of 'A Quiet Place Part II'

A Quiet Place

This thriller is so intense you have to watch it at night. The perfect film to fully immerse yourself into. You can’t watch this whilst being on your phone or even eat anything noisier than popcorn. However, as someone who is easily scared by both horrors and jump scares, I wouldn’t dream this to be bad at all. Rather the opposite. For suspense and unpredictability, watch this.

Dunkirk: Everything You Must Know About Christopher Nolan's WWII ...

Dunkirk

When I watched this in the cinema it was quite a hard watch. Telling of a time much much worse than now, it is somewhat fulfilling when watching Dunkirk to see what our own great grandparents did for our lives. Immersive, and gripping, this film will take your gaze and hold it for just under 2 hours. Personally I would recommend this over 1917 any day.

Monty Python And The Holy Grail

A classic. This film is hilarious for those that find this type of comedy funny. It’s from the 70s so not your 4K film but the best ones are the classics and this one will leave you with a smile on your face, forgetting everything in your mind for 2 hours. A must watch, along with every other Monty Python film ever. (this one is the best though)

Amazon Prime:

Review: 'Legend,' Starring Tom Hardy as the Gangster Twins Ronnie ...

Legend

Tom Hardy plays both of the Kray Twins, I mean what’s better, one Tom Hardy or two? Well, either way, this film has some incredible acting that leaves you often doubting that the twins are played by the same person. Definitely worth a watch if you love a good gangster crime film.

The Imitation Game fact vs. fiction: How true the new movie is to ...

The Imitation Game

Disclaimer: This film is GUARANTEED to make you cry. If you don’t then you’re heartless. Just kidding, but even so its a wonderful film starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley. Exploring the life of Alan Turing, the man who built a machine to crack the German enigma code in the Second World War. it explores a great mind and his vulnerabilities as well as the treatment of LGBTQ people in an era not that long ago from ours. For a nice cry, give this a watch.

Chicken Run - Film - European Film Awards

Chicken Run

For a fantastic laugh as well as a surprisingly well made film, Chicken Run is the best. I’d be surprised if you hadn’t already seen this but to be honest it doesn’t matter. It’s always worth a watch either way. It’s a funny, tense and exciting animation that came out in 2000 and has remained a classic ever since.

The Current War Highlights Drama Over America's Electrical Grid

The Current War

Now I haven’t seen this one yet but it is definitely on my list. If not for the star-studded cast, the story will be what grabs you. “Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse — the greatest inventors of the industrial age — engage in a battle of technology and ideas that will determine whose electrical system will power the new century”. It sounds like a mix between a period drama and a story of betrayal, all mixed with Tom Holland, Nicholas Hoult, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

In 'Snowpiercer,' the Train Trip to End All Train Trips - The New ...

Snowpiercer

By now most people have heard of director and writer, Bong Joon-ho. If not, well he directed Parasite? The film that took the world by storm last award season. He directed this one too. Starring Chris Evans, this tells the tale of an apocalypse where the only survivors are the ones on this great train named ‘Snowpiercer’. As is Bong Joon-ho’s staple, it’s all about class inequality. But with its shocking twists and spouts of quite a lot of violence, it’s not worth missing.
